Own a Netbook? Try Moblin

If you went out and purchased a netbook like many other people, this post is for you. Netbooks aren't the most powerful computers, but they don't have to be. They are designed to run your basic applications like the internet and email. Unfortunately though many companies who are producing the netbooks are installing Windows Vista on them, which as an operating system doesn't even run that well on a fully powered system.

That's where Moblin comes in. Developed by Intel, the people who created the processor likely inside your computer, Moblin is an operating system designed to run on mobile computers like netbooks. Moblin is a very easy to use, very low powered operating system that has a good chance in picking up interest.

I've tested out the Moblin Beta on a Dell Mini 9 and running off the solid state hard drive, its very snappy, and boots very fast. Wireless doesn't work on the Dell Mini 9 with Moblin installed, but if you search around there are ways to make it work.

Moblin will work with most computers, including full sized laptops too. If you don't want to install it on your main hard drive you can install it to a USB thumb drive instead. Give it a shot and let us know how it works for you.
