I was lucky enough to receive a few great tech goodies this holiday, but what really made it come together was the Logitech Harmony 900, an ergonomic universal remote with a full-color touchscreen that lets me control almost all of my entertainment devices! This top-of-line universal remote features easy, one-touch access to all of your entertainment (watch TV or DVDs, or listen to music), with backlit buttons to boot.
These days, having a high-tech home theatre system unfortunately means often juggling multiple remotes. The Harmony remote is an all-in-one that’s easy to set up and replaces up to 15 remotes!
It definitely reduces clutter on your coffee table but it’s not cheap, retailing for around $300. But the cool thing is that unlike most universal remotes, it even works with devices stored behind walls and cabinetry, so you can stay in control seamlessly. The remote uses RF instead of IR, meaning you can control your equipment without the need to aim your remote or have line of sight to your devices, even up to 100 feet away!
Another bonus is that the remote comes with a base station to recharge itself, so you never have to worry about replacing the batteries when you’re in the middle of your favourite show, movie, or song.
The set up is simple - just connect the remote to your PC or Mac and it will guide you through all the steps.
The Harmony supports over 5000 brands and 225,000 devices, so it will almost certainly work with your devices. If you were lucky enough to get some tech Christmas goodies, like a new TV, Blu-Ray player, etc., I recommend it as a great universal remote.
