Office 2010 Has Arrived

It's a shame we never got to see more of Office 2010: The Movie, but Microsoft Office 2010 is finally released today.

This version is the most exciting one yet, and improves on what I believe to be Office's core strengths - the ability to create professional-looking documents and presentations easily and quickly. Let’s be honest, no Google Doc or OpenOffice document can even come close to looking like a document Microsoft Office can produce on the fly without a fair bit of hacking.

Along with the release of Office 2010, Microsoft is also launching Office Web Apps, which are essentially stripped-down web-based versions of desktop Office programs, so that you are able to access and make changes to your documents no matter where you are as long as you have an Internet connection.

Is the Free Media Lunch Over?

Is the Free Media Lunch Over?

For years, we've been conditioned to get our online content - especially "news" - for free. The proliferation of free online news has resulted in a dying print world. Newspapers are shutting down across North Amercia. Of course they make advertising revenue from people who visit their websites, but it's not nearly enough.

And then there is the aggregator problem. Google, like many other search engines and web portals aggregate news content. While the aggregator makes money from the ads they sell around aggregated content - the original journalist, or news organization does not. This just adds insult to injury for the news producers.

Organize Your Digital Life

If you’re like me, you're probably amassing an enormous collection of digital media.  I’m talking about photos, digital music and video – be it home video, or downloaded clips/movies. In my collection alone, I have more than 20,000 photos, 12,000 songs, and hundreds of hours of movies and TV shows. Sounds like a lot, but I dare you to take a quick inventory of what you have sitting on your hard drive.

France Pulls the Plug on Downloaders

So it’s happened. France has just adopted a law allows their government to cut off the Internet connection of illegal downloaders. This paves the way for other countries to have a government agency dedicated to tracking down Internet pirates.

Extra Juice for iPhones with Mophie Juice Pack Air

iPhone battery dying too soon during the day? That’s a problem I hear from many owners. In all fairness to Apple, the only reason that this is an issue is because the phone is such a useful tool. Besides being a phone, it’s an email client, game player, music and video player.... the list goes on and on. Bottom line, people use their iPhone so much, the battery inevitably gets drained faster.

One Hub to Rule Them All

Tired of the half dozen chargers taking up every power outlet in the home? God knows I am! With three kids all needing to charge electronics as I do, we have multiple iPods, cell phones and gaming devices scattered throughout the house. Small daily battles erupt over power outlet territory for mobile devices, driving my wife crazy.

The death of traditional media?

The death of traditional media?

I’m sure you’ve read about the continuing failure of newspapers in many cities across North America, due mainly to the advances in technology, most specifically, the Internet.
