New Features in Microsoft Word 2010

Microsoft has released its highly anticipated Office 2010 and they have added some new features which will make creating your professional-quality documents fast and simple.

The familiar Ribbon design interface is back with some slight changes. Instead of the traditional file menu, Microsoft has come up with Office Backstage view, making printing, saving, sharing, and publishing easier. You can also customize the Ribbon to suit your personal taste, allowing you to quickly access the features you use the most.

Office 2010 also makes it easier to access and edit your documents from any computer with the help of Microsoft Office Web Apps. With these web apps, you don’t have to be on a computer with Office 2010 installed. You get the same Ribbon interface with the web apps all in your browser window.

Some of the new features available in Word 2010 include adding visual impact to your documents with new picture editing tools and the new SmartArt graphics feature. You can also use visual effects like shadow and bevel on your text to add a professional feel to your documents, and the insert screenshot feature can quickly incorporate visual illustrations to add to your work.

Microsoft Office Web Apps and Office 2010 On Your Desktop

Microsoft has opened its arms and released their new Office Web Apps to the public. What's even better? It's free!

There are differences between the desktop version and the online apps of Office 2010, but the convenience of having access to Office programs from any computer makes this groundbreaking.

Office Web Apps consist of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, which are remarkably similar to their desktop counterparts.

When using Web Apps, you can open and edit your documents from anywhere. Also, all of your files can be stored online on Microsoft Skydrive, which you can get with a Windows Live ID. On Skydrive (where all your Web App documents are stored), you are given 25GB of free online storage for your documents.

There are some really cool features of the web apps. If you have Office 2010 installed on your computer, you can launch the desktop version of the web app you are using from your browser with just a click of your mouse, and continue editing the document from your desktop office application.

BELUS TV?

BELUS TV?

Another behind the scenes deal between the ogopolistic communication companies in Canada births Satellite TV for TELUS customers in Western Canada.

So what happened to the TELUS IP based TV? It’s still there, but this agreement allows BELL to sell its digital satellite TV service to TELUS customers under the TELUS brand. Smells a little funky to me.... Smells a little more like TELUS is taking BELL’s Satellite TV for a test drive before possibly buying out the ‘bad step child’ from BELL.

Whatever is really happening one thing is for certain. BELL is challenged in Western Canada and getting more subscribers to the satellite TV service is going to be a whole lot easier when it can be bundled with existing TELUS customers' phone lines, cellular, and Internet.

Would you stop going to the theatre?

Steven Sodebergh is at it again by changing up how ‘regular people’ in Hollywood do things. His latest release “Girlfriend Experience” will be launching in Amazon stores online BEFORE it actually hits the theatres.

Imagine the scenario “Hi Guys, come over to my place tonight. I rented the Starship Troopers Trilogy, but only had enough money for one license so make sure everyone brings $3.50 to remit back to the rights owners. By the way – lets order pizza too!”

Is Twitter old enough to have an STD? (Server Transmitted Disease – AKA WORM)

Twitter at the age of four-ish finally has the notoriety it deserves this past Easter weekend. The social networking site was in the mainstream news because a 17-year-old, Mike Mooney, claims to have developed a worm that could be passed through JavaScript on Twitter’s service. Malware? Spyware? - what was the damage of this latest attack? Money? Blackmail? – what was the motivation of this latest attack? The answers – neither neither.
